Valeriy Nepomnyashiy, who has worked as a head coach in former Russian professional football league clubs, commented on the tightening of restrictions for legionnaires in the Russian football league. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Earlier, reports emerged that the Russian Ministry of Sports plans to introduce restrictions in a new format, meaning that each team’s roster would include ten foreign players, but no more than five foreign players could be on the field at the same time. Valeriy Nepomnyashiy expressed his opinion on this matter, stating that he is generally against restrictions, but emphasized that such measures have a certain meaning in the current isolation conditions.
According to him, there is no benefit in bringing in average-level foreign players, especially when not participating in international competitions. At the same time, Nepomnyashiy mentioned that if Russian clubs return to the international arena, there is no need to restore the previous system and make frequent changes.
Yesterday, Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev announced that the new format of restrictions has been almost approved and that the transition to it will begin in the next season.
