The Ukrainian Football Association continues to mix sports and politics. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Recently, it became known that a friendly match would be held between the national teams of Russia and Jordan. Following this, the Ukrainian Football Association immediately sent a letter to FIFA, UEFA, and the Asian Football Confederation.
In the letter, they called on the Jordanian national team not to participate in the friendly match against Russia. The Ukrainian side justifies this request by pointing out that the Russian Football Union has been under sanctions from FIFA for almost three and a half years.
However, FIFA sanctions only apply to official competitions. There are no restrictions on Russia regarding friendly matches.
For this reason, the attempts of the Ukrainian Football Association to cancel the match between Russia and Jordan are expected to be unsuccessful. The Russian national team will play its game against Jordan at home on September 4.
Three days later, on September 7, Russia will play away against the Qatar team. This situation once again highlights the boundaries between sports and politics.
