Famous sports commentator Gennady Orlov expressed his opinion on the tightening of the limit on foreign players in the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
It is known that the tightening of this limit was previously announced by the Russian Minister of Sports Mikhail Degtyaryov. According to Orlov, the Russian Ministry of Sports is not discussing the restrictions on the number of foreign players with the Russian Football Union and the coaches.
He questioned why the sports minister is speaking on this issue, as the Russian Football Union is a public organization. Orlov emphasized that this organization should also be given the opportunity to express its opinion.
According to him, an open discussion on this matter is necessary. Orlov stated that he is particularly surprised that the opinions of the coaches are not being taken into account.
He believes that it is the coaches who should make the main decision in this regard. According to the information available to Orlov, the majority of coaches in Russian Premier League clubs are in favor of abolishing the limit on foreign players.
Orlov himself also supports the removal of this limit. According to the current regulations, Russian Premier League clubs can register a maximum of 13 foreign players in a season.
At the same time, it is prohibited to have more than 8 foreign players on the field at the same time.
