Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyaryov recently announced plans to tighten the limit on the number of legionnaires in the Russian Premier League starting from the next season. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
On this matter, Russian Premier League president Aleksandr Alayev shared his opinion. Alayev emphasized that all football organizations and regulators want development.
According to him, the league is ready to discuss restrictions on the number of foreign players. Alayev stated that the issue of restrictions falls within the authority of the Sports Ministry.
The league is open to discussing new regulations and ready to share its experience. He also highlighted that extensive data has been collected during the process of developing and implementing various restriction formats.
Currently, the Russian Premier League has two types of restrictions for foreign players. A team can have a maximum of 13 legionnaires among the players registered for the season.
Additionally, no more than 8 foreign players are allowed on the field at the same time. These restrictions were introduced to ensure the national development of football and to provide opportunities for local players.
