The management of "Real Madrid" made an unusual decision regarding the future of two experienced players — Croatian midfielder Luka Modric and Spanish defender Lucas Vasquez.
According to a report by the Spanish publication AS, the club has offered these two footballers a new contract for just two weeks, as their current contracts expire on June 30.
It has been revealed that the Madrid club intends to use these experienced players only during the World Championship between clubs. It is worth noting that the organizers of this new format competition, organized by FIFA, also advised participating clubs to sign short-term contracts with players whose contracts are expiring.
The leaders of the "Royal Club" have likely decided to part ways with Lucas Vasquez at the end of the season. However, the Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric may remain with the team for another season. Before that, the 39-year-old star will have to agree to a significant reduction in his salary and give up his role in the starting lineup, operating as a backup option.
Do you think the decision of the "Real" management is justified or is it disrespectful towards experienced footballers?
