UEFA delegate Alisher Nikimbaev announced that the organizers of the 2026 World Cup are ready to consider the implementation of the Fan ID system for entry to the competition matches. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
This experience was previously used in the 2018 tournament in Russia and the 2022 tournament in Qatar. According to Nikimbaev, the Fan ID may be implemented in the World Cup among nations, although it was not available in the club World Cup.
This system is linked to visas and serves to facilitate the entry of participants. The 2026 World Cup will be held for the first time in three countries – the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Additionally, a club World Cup will also take place in the USA in 2025. The Russian national team will not participate in this tournament as it did not qualify in the qualifying stage.
This situation has caused the team to be unable to qualify for the tournament. The Fan ID system is seen as an important innovation aimed at improving the safety and order of world football.
