WhatsApp is adding a voice message text option for iPhone

WhatsApp is making it easier for iPhone users to convert voice messages to text, according to Pepelac News. In the coming days, users will be able to choose which voice messages to convert to text themselves.

Previously, this feature worked automatically — users would select one of 41 languages, and all voice messages would be converted to text. Now, WhatsApp is offering users a manual control mode. When this mode is selected, a separate button appears in the message window — when pressed, the message is displayed in text form.

The new feature is being developed for devices running iOS 16 and later. The company has stated that all voice messages will be processed only within the device, using Apple’s local language models. The data will not be sent anywhere, and encryption will remain intact.

Currently, this feature is only available to some beta users, but it is expected to be rolled out to a wider audience in the coming weeks. The global release date has not yet been announced.
