WHO Issues New Recommendations on Salt ConsumptionThe World Health Organization (WHO) advises reducing sodium intake and replacing regular salt with alternatives. ? Recommended sodium intake – no more than 2 grams per day, but the global average is 4.3 grams. ? Health risks: Heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney and bone problems, stomach cancer risk. New recommendations: Use potassium-enriched salt alternatives. Reduce processed food consumption. Use spices instead of salt in cooking. Choose iodized salt. Check sodium content on food labels. In Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the risk of cardiovascular-related deaths is five times higher than in Western Europe. Hypertension accounts for 25% of all deaths in the region.
