Serious work has begun on the formation of the National Strategy for the Fight Against Cancer, aimed at the years 2025–2035. At a meeting held in Tashkent from April 28 to 30, oncologists, analysts, representatives from the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other international organizations and strategic centers agreed on the preliminary draft of this document.
The action plan has been launched
It was noted that this initiative is being implemented within the framework of the second phase of the project "Development of Oncology Services in the Republic of Uzbekistan," with the support of the Islamic Development Bank. During the meeting, the official launch of the Action Plan was also announced.
This strategic document is being prepared not only with medical solutions but also encompassing social, economic, and spiritual solutions.
Human life is more important than numbers
The UN office in Uzbekistan reported that currently, there are over 100,000 registered cancer patients in the country. More than 20,000 new cases are identified each year. If detected early and treated in time, there is a possibility of complete recovery for a large portion of them.
“However, this is impossible without a systematic approach. Every plan, every step — from equipment, personnel, to public awareness and trust — is being taken into account. This is not just about reducing statistics, but about preserving life,” the international organization stated.
Decisions are based on science, experience, and people
It was emphasized at the meeting that the strategy requires a human-centered approach. This encompasses not only clinical diagnosis and treatment but also information and communication activities, public awareness, and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
Currently, responsible authorities are working on the legal, financial, and practical mechanisms of the program. The final version of the cancer control strategy is expected to be presented to the public in the coming months.
The editorial team of Zamin.uz considers this strategy to be one of the most important and humanitarian initiatives in the field of healthcare in the country. Because cancer is not just about numbers, it is about life. And every life is worth attention.
