The 1100th anniversary of Imam Moturidi will be widely celebrated in Uzbekistan. This was announced by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's relevant decision.
The decision aims to encourage comprehensive study of the exemplary life path and rich scientific-spiritual heritage of Imam Abu Mansur Moturidi, promote the principles of tolerance and moderation characteristic of the Moturidism doctrine among our people and the global community, and educate the youth in the spirit of love for the homeland and respect for national and universal values.
Within two weeks, a program of measures will be approved that envisions celebrating the 1155th anniversary of Imam Moturidi's birth at a high level, commensurate with the scholar's reputation and influence in the Islamic world. In particular:
(a) An international scientific-practical conference on the topic “Moturidism – Tolerance, Moderation, and Enlightenment Doctrine” will be held in Samarkand in April 2025;
(b) A scientific competition on the Moturidism doctrine will be held among foreign researchers, with cultural-enlightenment meetings and seminar-trainings organized in Uzbekistan for the winners;
(v) Academic translations of Imam Moturidi's works “Ta’vilot al-Qur’on” and “Kitob at-tavhid” and sources related to the Moturidism doctrine will be published in Uzbek and foreign languages;
(g) Commemorative souvenirs dedicated to the 1155th anniversary of Imam Moturidi's birth will be issued, as well as a series of visual information materials highlighting the life and scientific heritage of the great thinker, including postage stamps and calendars;
(d) An artistic-journalistic film will be created that reveals the contemporary significance of Imam Moturidi's multifaceted life path and scientific heritage;
(ye) An exhibition of rare manuscripts and published copies of works dedicated to the lives, scientific, and creative heritage of scholars who worked in the field of Imam Moturidi and the Moturidism doctrine in Samarkand region will be organized;
(j) The Abu Mansur Moturidiy complex in Samarkand will be renovated and improved.
Together with the Committee for Religious Affairs, a republican scientific-practical conference on the topic “Moturidism Doctrine and Modern Times” and a scientific article competition will be held at the Sharof Rashidov Samarkand State University in May and October 2025, funded by the Development Fund for Higher Education Institutions.
