Significant steps have been taken in Uzbekistan to restore the environment and manage waste. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency, a total of 47 municipal waste landfills have been closed in the country. As a result of this initiative, more than 90 hectares of land have been returned to nature.
In 2024–2025, ecological restoration works were carried out in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as in the Andijan, Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Tashkent, Fergana, and Khorezm regions. The waste landfills were reclaimed and covered with soil layers.
As a result of the work carried out in 2024, waste landfills were closed in several areas. Specifically, 11 hectares in Karakalpakstan, 14.9 hectares in Andijan, 19.15 hectares in Kashkadarya, and 17.11 hectares in Fergana were returned to nature.
In 2025, reclamation works were completed at another 18 waste landfills. The total area of these sites amounted to 81.68 hectares.
Thus, ecological restoration works were carried out at 47 out of a total of 185 landfills across the country. Additionally, 42 waste collection sites were completely closed, returning an additional 90 hectares of land to the natural ecosystem.
These measures are being implemented in accordance with the Decree No. 5 of the President of Uzbekistan dated January 4, 2024. This document is aimed at waste recycling, restoring natural land areas, and ensuring environmental safety.
According to ecologists, these changes not only contribute to nature conservation but also promote the creation of green spaces. It once again proved that cleaning the environment is the most reliable way to create a healthy environment for future generations.
