A large-scale cyberattack campaign exploiting a vulnerability in Microsoft’s SharePoint software platform has so far identified at least 400 organizations as victims. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This was announced by specialists from the Eye Security company based in the Netherlands. Initially, it was believed that 100 organizations were affected by the attack, but subsequent investigations show that this number is much higher.
Experts emphasized that all traces of the attack have not yet been identified, indicating that the actual number of affected organizations could be even higher. According to Vaisha Bernard, a leading specialist at Eye Security, not all traces left by the attack have been scanned, so there is a possibility that the number of affected organizations is greater.
These cyberattacks arose because the security vulnerability in Microsoft’s SharePoint server software has not been fully addressed. After the vulnerability was identified, while Microsoft was attempting to fix it, cybercriminals began actively exploiting these flaws.
According to experts from Microsoft and Google, Chinese hackers may be behind the attack. However, Beijing has firmly denied these allegations.
So far, the list of affected organizations has not been fully disclosed, and Vaisha Bernard has refused to reveal their identities. This situation raises serious concerns in the field of cybersecurity and calls on organizations to further strengthen their systems.
