The Italian government is seriously concerned about the introduction of additional anti-dumping tariffs on Italian pasta products by the United States. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country, as reported to Reuters agency, the new tariffs are expected to nearly double the price of Italian pasta in the US market. This situation is causing not only economic but also political discontent in Italy.
For this reason, Rome is currently seeking opportunities to pressure Washington together with the European Commission. According to the Italian government, these US decisions could negatively affect the export potential of European Union countries.
Diplomatic sources assess this situation as a strong blow to trade relations. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that these measures contradict the principles of free trade and mutual trust.
The US Department of Commerce, explaining the reason for the anti-dumping tariffs, stated that two major Italian manufacturers were found to be selling their products artificially below market prices. Based on this, new tariffs were introduced.
The new tariff will increase the price of Italian pasta by 91.74%. This could cause significant difficulties not only for consumers but also for Italian producers.
Some experts view this event as the beginning of an economic freeze between the two countries. So far, Rome is striving to resolve the issue through diplomatic means.
However, if Washington does not change its decision, Italy is expected to consider retaliatory measures through the European Commission. This could lead to the start of new trade disputes between Europe and America.
