The US has reduced port fees for Chinese ships

The administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to reduce port fees for ships manufactured in China, according to finance.mail.ru.

According to the Federal Register, the new regulation applies to ships serving US territories, the Caribbean Sea, and the Great Lakes. Previously, fees of up to $1.5 million were proposed, which raised concerns in the global shipping industry.

Under the new regulation, the fee will be charged per trip but will not exceed 6 times a year. The fee amount is set at $50 per ton and will increase by $30 each year. For container-based calculations, it will rise from $120 to $250.

Ships departing from domestic ports, loading cargo for export, or arriving empty will be exempt from the fee. Special rates starting at $18 have been established for ships manufactured in China but owned by other countries.
