
The powerful “Kalmaegi” typhoon that struck the central and southern regions of the Philippines has been recorded as one of the most devastating natural disasters in the country’s history. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to official data, at least 140 people have died as a result of this disaster, and another 127 citizens are missing. This was reported by the AFP news agency, citing local government sources.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of the Philippines has confirmed 114 victims so far. At the same time, the Cebu provincial government announced that another 28 people have died.
According to the “Associated Press” agency, considering the severity of the situation, the country’s President Ferdinand Marcos declared a state of emergency throughout the Philippines. The natural disaster came with heavy rain, storms, and high waves, putting residents living in coastal areas at great risk.
Nearly 400,000 people were evacuated from dangerous areas. Waves in the sea were reported to have reached heights of up to 4 meters.
Currently, the typhoon is moving in the direction of Vietnam. It is known that the Philippines experiences an average of about 20 typhoons annually.
In 2025, this figure has significantly increased, with 3–5 new typhoons expected during the remainder of the year. It is worth noting that earlier reports stated that 66 people had died due to the “Kalmaegi” typhoon.
It has been reported that the number of victims is rising and rescue operations are ongoing.
