The issue of deploying US nuclear weapons in Japan is being discussed in political circles. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Kyodo news agency, sources say that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi emphasizes the need to reconsider the country's long-standing principles of "not possessing nuclear weapons, not developing them, and not allowing them into the country's territory."
According to Takaichi, especially the third principle — the policy of "not allowing nuclear weapons into the country's territory" — limits the effective use of the US nuclear deterrent forces. She believes that this firm stance could weaken Japan's security guarantees in emergency military situations.
In her statement, Takaichi stressed that if US nuclear-armed vessels are prohibited from entering Japan, the country could lose its defense capabilities. Japan is the only country in history to have suffered the tragedies of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and has pursued a peace-oriented policy for many years.
For this reason, the proposal to change the non-nuclear policy is causing widespread debate within the country.
