According to the International Telecommunication Union report, nearly 240 million people worldwide have connected to the internet in the past year, bringing the total number of users to 6 billion. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This accounts for approximately three-quarters of the world’s population. However, 2.2 billion people still do not have access to the internet.
This situation highlights the urgency of the digital divide issue. The report states that 94 percent of the population in high-income countries use the internet, while in low-income countries this figure is only 23 percent.
Urban residents (85%) use the internet more than those in rural areas (58%). Additionally, the internet usage rate is 77 percent among men and 71 percent among women.
There is also a significant gap in the development of 5G technology. In high-income countries, 5G coverage reaches 84 percent, whereas in low-income countries this figure is only 4 percent.
In Uzbekistan, the share of internet users from January to August 2025 was 94.2 percent. This indicates the development of digital infrastructure in the country.
