The U.S. Department of Transportation has warned that the state of Pennsylvania may lose nearly $75 million in federal funding. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This decision was made after violations were found in the process of issuing commercial driver's licenses (CDL). The statement was released on November 20.
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Pennsylvania illegally issued commercial licenses to individuals residing unlawfully in the United States. The report noted that some license holders were found to be "unqualified and ineligible."
Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy emphasized the necessity for the state to revoke illegally issued licenses and address the violations.
Otherwise, federal funding may be suspended. Additionally, the department stated that this issue highlights the importance of verifying licenses issued to foreigners.
This matter is related to the arrest of Uzbek national Akhror Bozorov. Bozorov was wanted in Uzbekistan for distributing extremist materials.
In the U.S., he worked as a truck driver based on a license obtained in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro emphasized that Bozorov was checked through the federal SAVE database and no suspicious circumstances were found.
At the same time, the Department of Transportation continues to demand strict measures to eliminate the violations.
