A report released by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) revealed a sharp increase in violence against women in Afghanistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the report, the level of violence against women in the country has risen by 40 percent over the past two years. It was emphasized that 14.2 million women in the country, nearly all women, are in need of humanitarian aid and support.
The UNAMA report states that violations of Afghan women's rights expose them to physical, mental, and economic risks in daily life. According to UNAMA leadership representative Georgette Gagnon, violence is not only a visible threat but also an act aimed at silencing women’s voices and limiting their opportunities.
The UN called on the international community to strengthen solidarity with Afghan women and provide them with more assistance. According to data, many restrictions were imposed on women and girls after the Taliban came to power in 2021.
Afghanistan currently remains the only country where girls cannot continue their education beyond the sixth grade.
