Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh has attracted global attention with its new metro project. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The city's metro has been included in the Guinness World Records as the longest driverless metro network in the world, according to Arab News. The metro system, scheduled to be operational in December 2024, consists of 6 lines spanning 176 kilometers and 85 stations.
This system is fully automated and operates driverlessly through central control. The main goal of the project is to reduce urban congestion and decrease environmental impact.
The Riyadh Metro is equipped with modern amenities. The trains feature Wi-Fi, high-capacity air conditioning, and electronic information displays.
When operating at full capacity, the system can transport 3.6 million passengers daily. The carriages are divided into three classes: premium, family, and standard.
Among the world's longest metro networks, Shanghai (831 km), Beijing (over 800 km), and Guangzhou (653 km) lead. Additionally, Moscow (460 km), New York (472 km), and London (402 km) are also considered some of the largest metro systems globally.
In terms of the number of stations, New York leads with approximately 472 stations in the city.
Shanghai has 439 stations, Beijing has 428, and Seoul has 335 stations. These figures demonstrate the advanced development of major metro systems worldwide.
