
An unexpected theft has been discovered at the Elysee Palace, the official residence of French President Emmanuel Macron. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
One of the palace staff is suspected of secretly taking valuable silver and porcelain items and selling them online. The total value of these items is estimated at around 40,000 euros.
Two more suspects have also been arrested in connection with this case. This was reported by The Guardian, citing information from the Paris prosecutor's office.
During the investigation, it was revealed that rare porcelain items belonging to the Sevres factory, considered a national heritage, were secretly taken out over a long period by a palace employee. These items were then put up for sale on online trading platforms.
The case was uncovered by specialists from the Sevres factory. They noticed unique items belonging to the palace on the internet and reported it.
About 100 items were confiscated from the suspects during the investigation and returned to the Elysee Palace. Among the confiscated items are Baccarat crystals and works created at the Lalique workshop.
The accused may face up to 10 years in prison. The court hearing is scheduled for February 26, 2026.
Such thefts have also been observed in other cultural sites in France. Recently, valuable jewelry belonging to Napoleon and Josephine was stolen from the Louvre Museum.
The damage from this theft was estimated at 88 million euros. Following this incident, some of the suspects were arrested at the airport.
