IMEI is the international identification number of mobile devices, a unique number assigned to each phone or smartphone. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This number usually consists of 15 digits and is important for identifying the device on the network, combating theft, and limiting the circulation of counterfeit phones. For this reason, many countries have implemented a mandatory IMEI code registration system.
IMEI control is important for countries for several reasons. First of all, this system allows stolen devices to be disconnected from the network.
It is also an effective tool against illegal imports and fraud cases. In some countries, customs and tax payments are monitored through IMEI.
IMEI control worldwide is organized based on two models: strict and soft systems. In countries where strict control ("white list") is applied, every phone must be registered mandatorily.
Otherwise, the device is blocked. Such a system operates in countries like Chile, Colombia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Nepal, and Egypt.
The soft control system is applied in India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, and some other countries. In this model, the IMEI is usually recorded when activating the SIM card or is blocked only in cases of theft.
In Uzbekistan, the IMEI system is strictly regulated. Every mobile device must be registered in the UZIMEI system to use the local GSM operators' network.
According to the rule, if the device is not registered within 30 days after connecting to the network for the first time, services will be restricted. From August 1, 2025, a fee for registration has been set: 20% of the base calculation amount (82,400 soums) if registered within 30 days, and 25% of the base calculation amount (103,000 soums) if registered after 30 days.
The IMEI registration process is carried out online through the UZIMEI portal or at post offices. Starting from 2025, the issue of customs declaration for phones imported from abroad will also be relevant, and if the device is not registered in the customs database, an additional customs fee will be required.
In conclusion, IMEI control is an important system in Uzbekistan to regulate the market and ensure the safe use of devices. It is necessary to register any new or imported phone on time.
Otherwise, access to communication services may be restricted.
