UN: US intervention in Venezuela violates international law

The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights emphasized in a statement on January 6 that the US military intervention in Venezuela's internal affairs violates international law and further endangers global security. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Commission called on the international community to take a clear and firm stance on this matter. It was reported that at the end of last week, US forces unexpectedly removed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro from power through a military operation.
The US has accused Maduro of narcoterrorism and other crimes. In his place, the Venezuelan Vice President was sworn in as interim president.
UN Human Rights Office spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani described this military intervention as an event that is not beneficial for human rights but rather leads to negative consequences for the international security system. She emphasized that this situation could open the way for powerful countries to act according to their own will.
Shamdasani also noted that the future of Venezuela should be decided only by the people of that country. She warned that political instability and increased military actions could further complicate the human rights situation.
