Human remains have been found as a result of the intense forest fires continuing in the southeastern regions of Australia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information provided by the Victoria state police, the remains were discovered near a car close to the town of Longwood. The identity of the deceased has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway.
The fires that have been ongoing in recent days are spreading rapidly due to scorching heat and dry weather. More than 350 thousand hectares of land have burned in Victoria state.
Over 300 homes and other structures have been damaged. Thousands of households have lost electricity.
Officials are assessing these fires as one of the largest natural disasters since the "Black Summer" events of 2019–2020. Currently, more than 30 fires remain active across the state.
Smoke from the fires has also engulfed the city of Melbourne, seriously affecting air quality. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced financial assistance for residents and farmers affected by the fires.
Thousands of firefighters and dozens of aircraft have been involved in extinguishing the fires. Officials remind the public of the necessity to strictly adhere to safety regulations.
