Former Georgian Prime Minister Imprisoned for Corruption

The former Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, has been sentenced to five years in prison by a court ruling. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He admitted guilt in laundering illegal income and reached an agreement with the prosecution. This information was reported by podrobno.uz.
Garibashvili was not only sentenced to imprisonment but was also fined 1 million lari. Additionally, all assets seized during the investigation, including a large amount of cash and valuable items, were confiscated in favor of the state.
This verdict was announced as a result of a comprehensive anti-corruption operation that began in October 2025. At that time, searches were conducted at 24 locations, including the homes of Garibashvili and the former head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili.
During the searches, more than 7 million dollars in cash was found. Among the confiscated assets were nearly 200 pieces of jewelry, valuable watches, collectible paintings, over 100 electronic devices, and thousands of pages of confidential documents.
According to the investigation's conclusion, Garibashvili engaged in commercial activities secretly while holding high government positions from 2013 to 2024. He declared the income received as "gifts from relatives" in official declarations.
More than 230 prosecutors and special service officers were involved in the case, and the collected evidence forced Garibashvili to reach an agreement with the investigation.
