The number of casualties in the Iran protests has been announced

Iranian officials have released the first official data on the number of casualties during the mass protests that took place in the country. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information provided by the Ministry of Interior and the Foundation for Martyrs and Veterans Affairs on state television, the number of victims reached 3,117. This information was reported by the podrobno.uz website.
The report states that 2,427 of the deceased were peaceful civilians and security forces representatives, while no additional information was given about the remaining 690. At the same time, it is noted that the official figures are significantly lower than those announced by human rights defenders and activists abroad.
Foreign organizations accuse the government of concealing the scale of the tragedy. Trust in the official statistics remains low, and debates over the number of casualties continue.
Earlier, international media, based on various sources, estimated the number of victims to range from hundreds to 12,000–20,000. The HRANA human rights organization reported at least 4,902 deaths and emphasized that this number could actually be higher.
The official statement was released as the Iranian government is trying to restore control after the wave of protests. Although the government is attempting to show that the situation is under control, the protest mood inside the country and external criticism persist.
The protests began due to public dissatisfaction following a series of events and quickly spread throughout the country. Clashes occurred as a result of the government's use of force, leading to many casualties.
While the officials' announcement of the number of casualties is an important step, it clearly shows a significant difference from international assessments.
