UN Chief: Ramadan is a time of peace and compassion

UN Secretary-General António Guterres addressed people around the world on the occasion of the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the UN press service, Guterres emphasized Ramadan as an important period for striving for peace and strengthening compassion among people. According to him, today many regions of the world are experiencing difficult trials.
He noted that in areas from Afghanistan to Yemen, Gaza to Sudan, there are problems such as conflicts, hunger, forced displacements, and discrimination. These issues complicate the lives of millions of people.
The UN chief called on the international community to focus on the main goals of Ramadan. He particularly stressed the necessity to resolve conflicts, assist those suffering, and protect the rights and dignity of every person.
In his view, Ramadan is not just a month on the calendar, but an opportunity to show mutual understanding and compassion among people. Additionally, Guterres mentioned that he continues the tradition of visiting a Muslim family each year during Ramadan and breaking the fast with them.
He emphasized that after each of these meetings, he returns inspired by the ideas of peace and mercy that Ramadan represents.
