Severe winter in Mongolia killed 26 thousand livestock

More than 26 thousand livestock died as a result of the severe winter in Mongolia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This situation arose due to a natural phenomenon called "dzud" in the country. "Dzud" is a Mongolian term that refers to the condition where livestock perish from hunger and cold due to frozen ground or a thick snow cover.
According to data provided by the National Statistics Office of Mongolia on February 12, over 26,300 livestock died in the western provinces and Central Ovorkhangai province in January. At least 11 out of the 21 provinces in the country were seriously affected by this event.
It is known that animal husbandry is one of the main sectors of Mongolia's economy, with about 40 percent of the nomadic population engaged in this field. However, harsh and prolonged winters cause significant losses for herders every year.
According to the report from the National Statistics Office, by the end of 2025, it is expected that Mongolia will have 58.1 million heads of livestock.
