The wife of the Spanish Prime Minister is accused of corruption and fraud

Begonya Gómez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, faces a series of serious corruption charges following a complex investigation that lasted two years. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
International news agencies reported this based on official sources. According to court documents, fifty-five-year-old Gómez is accused of several offenses, including abuse of official power, corrupt activities in the business sector, as well as embezzlement and misappropriation of state funds.
The initial investigation into this case was launched last April by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado. Within the scope of the investigation, primary focus was placed on Begonya Gómez's personal project at the Complutense University of Madrid — the Department of Competitive Social Transformation.
Experts and investigators emphasize that the establishment of this department was illogical and lacked practical necessity. It is suspected that pressure from high-ranking circles was exerted on the university administration during the implementation of the project.
The department was subsequently closed after it was determined to have no scientific or practical value. Investigative activities expanded further in October of last year.
This time, based on a claim filed by far-right public organizations, new suspicions emerged regarding Gómez's illegal appropriation of software resources belonging to the university. Additionally, the investigation findings include the illegal recruitment of Cristina Álvarez, an official receiving a state salary, as an assistant for personal business projects.
Both Begonya Gómez and Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez have strongly denied all accusations against them. The Prime Minister characterized this investigation as political pressure organized by the right-wing opposition against the government and an attempt to destabilize the country.
Despite this, this scandalous case surrounding the Prime Minister is increasing pressure on the government, and opposition representatives continue to demand Sánchez's immediate resignation. Currently, the judicial process is ongoing, and evidence from both sides is being examined.
