An explosion in a Chinese coal mine has killed 90 people.

One of the largest countries in the world, the People's Republic of China, has reported a tragic incident. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
A powerful explosion occurred in one of the coal mines located in Shanxi Province. According to the latest data, at least 90 miners lost their lives in this accident.
This was reported by the well-known BBC news agency, citing a statement released by Chinese local mass media. The major tragedy occurred at the Liushenyu coal mine, operated by the Tongzhou Group company, on May 22 of this year at 19:29 local time.
At the time of the underground explosion, 247 workers were performing their duties inside the mine. Following the tragic incident, experienced rescuers and special technical teams were urgently dispatched to the scene.
Footage broadcast by Chinese state television shows doctors and medical personnel pulling injured miners out of the smoke, while dozens of ambulance vehicles can be seen waiting in the area. According to official reports, more than a hundred people suffering from various degrees of burns and injuries were urgently taken to hospitals.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping issued an urgent statement regarding the tragedy, ordering all state forces to be mobilized to search for those trapped underground and to provide assistance to the injured. The Chinese leader also instructed that the causes of the explosion be thoroughly investigated and that those responsible for this negligence be held accountable under the law.
According to local press, a criminal case has been opened in connection with the incident, and the mine management as well as individuals responsible for safety technology have been detained by law enforcement authorities. Although the exact causes of the explosion are being studied by a special commission, preliminary assessments suggest that the disaster was caused by an excess of methane gas in the mine beyond permissible levels.
It should be noted that in the early 2000s, such tragic accidents in China's coal industry occurred frequently. Although state-level oversight has since been strengthened and safety regulations tightened, such horrific tragedies continue to recur due to systemic shortcomings.
Rescue operations are currently ongoing at the site of the incident.
