This order amends Executive Order 14195, which was signed on February 1, 2025. That document emphasized that China's inability to control the fentanyl flow poses a threat to US national security.
Trump made the decision to increase the tariff on Chinese products based on section 1702(a)(1)(B) of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. As a result, the tariff rate was raised from the previous 10% to 20%.
