Commentator Dmitriy Guberniyev expressed his opinion on the proposal of the Russian Ministry of Sports to tighten the restrictions on the number of foreign players in the Russian Premier League. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Currently, clubs can have a list of 13 foreign players, of which eight can play on the field at the same time. Guberniyev noted that the ministry and the Russian Football Union's views on this matter do not currently align, but they will certainly reach an agreement, he said.
He also mentioned the importance of having at least first or second-tier stars among foreign players, but stated that it is difficult to expect such players without European cups. According to the new restrictions, clubs will be able to include 10 foreign players in the list, of which 6 can be on the field at the same time.
Dmitriy Guberniyev has been serving as an advisor to Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyaryov since the beginning of 2025. These changes are expected to have a positive impact on the development of Russian football.
