Sergey Semak, the head coach of Zenit, commented on proposals to limit the number of foreign players in Russian football. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
He emphasized how reducing the number of foreign players could impact clubs and players. According to current rules, clubs are allowed to have 13 foreign players, of which eight can play on the field at the same time.
However, the Russian Ministry of Sports plans to reduce the number of foreign players to 10 on the roster and 6 on the field. According to Semak, strong players will always find their place, and these restrictions should not hinder their game.
He also pointed out that many other countries have no restrictions on foreign players, which does not hinder the development of clubs. Therefore, the new rules should not negatively affect the quality of football.
