Starting from the next season, the limit on the number of foreign football players in the Russian Premier League is expected to be tightened. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In this regard, Dmitry Svischyov, a deputy of the State Duma of Russia, expressed his opinion. He emphasized his support for the initiative proposed by the Ministry of Sports.
According to the deputy, the introduction of a limit on foreign players will equalize opportunities among teams and open up broader pathways for the development of young Russian footballers. In Svischyov's view, the number of local players in Russian football should increase, which is of significant importance for the development of national football.
He also noted that limiting the number of foreign players would provide additional opportunities for Russian athletes in the context of sanctions imposed by UEFA and FIFA. Currently, clubs in the Russian Premier League can include 13 foreign players in their squad for one season.
However, at the same time, no more than 8 foreign players are allowed on the field. According to the new regulations, these numbers may be reduced to 10 and 5 players, respectively.
The main goal of these changes is to expand opportunities for local players and enhance the level of the national championship.
