Anzor Kavazashvili, a former goalkeeper of the Soviet Union national team and Moscow "Spartak" team, expressed the need to strengthen the restrictions on the number of legionnaires. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
Previously, the Russian Football Union and the Ministry of Sports had also proposed such an initiative. According to Kavazashvili, the restriction is an important protective measure for our football.
He stated that the large number of foreign players negatively affects the activities of our national clubs. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account the interests of Russian football.
According to the project currently under consideration, the number of legionnaires in the teams of the Russian Premier League will be reduced from 14 to 10 on the roster, and from 8 to 5 in the starting lineup. Additionally, citizens of member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, including Belarus and Kazakhstan, will not be considered legionnaires.
These changes are being implemented to develop national football and support local talents. It is expected that reducing the number of legionnaires will create more opportunities for young players.
This will serve to improve the quality and competitiveness of the country's football.
