If the only evidence against a person is their own admission of guilt, they cannot be punished
During the fifth plenary session of the Senate, a law was discussed that aims to amend certain legal documents in connection with the adoption of the new version of the Constitution, focusing on strengthening the guarantees of the activities of courts and the rights and freedoms of citizens.

It was noted that the discussed law stipulates that under the Criminal Procedure Code and the law "On Courts," a suspect, accused, or convicted person is not required to prove their innocence and may exercise their right to remain silent at any time.

Moreover, it is provided that if a person's admission of guilt is the only evidence against them, they cannot be found guilty or punished. The right of a witness participating in the trial not to give testimony against themselves and their close relatives is being introduced.

The law establishes that the removal of a judge from the discussion of a specific case or the suspension of their powers, as well as their transfer to another position, can only be done in accordance with the procedures and grounds specified by law. It is also stipulated that any interference in the judge's powers and activities related to the administration of justice is prohibited, and they are not accountable.

The scope of the Supreme Court's legislative initiative rights has been clarified, indicating that it can only introduce issues within its powers.

The law was approved by the senators.
