Excess water from the Esil River is directed to the Aral Sea
During the Pavlodar period, it is planned to direct excess water from the Esil River basin to the Aral Sea. To implement this process, the construction of three canals through the Turgay River is planned, as reported by a Kazinform correspondent.

The total length of these canals is 277 kilometers, and 324 billion tenge is required for funding. Currently, a special advisory body is studying the project's effectiveness.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev in response to a Majilis deputy.

— "Within the framework of the 'International Caspian-Aral Basin Ecosystem Restoration and Flood Water Management Fund,' the technical and economic foundations of the project 'Flood Water Management of the Esil River: Direction to the Turgay River and Aral Sea Basin' have been developed. It is planned to spend 324.4 billion tenge on construction and installation works within the project," Bozumbayev said.

The project includes the construction of three canals:
— "Esil-Turgay" – length 42 km
— "Karakol-Sariozen" – length 52 km
— "Shalkarteniz-Aral" – length 183 km

— The implementation of the project requires significant financial resources. Through this, water will be directed from the Esil River basin to the Turgay River basin, resulting in the restoration of the hydrological regime of Lake Shalkarteniz. Currently, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is deeply studying the distribution of water between the basins. Materials related to the project will be submitted to the Scientific and Technical Council under the ministry. Based on the recommendations of the council, the government will make a final decision on the project's feasibility," Bozumbayev stated in his response.
