UN court's historic decision on climate rights
Important news for the global community: The International Court of the United Nations has recognized a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment as a distinct human right for humanity. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

According to the court's decision, climate change is now considered an urgent and extremely serious threat to all humanity. As emphasized by the President of the International Court, Yuji Iwasawa, states must work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This issue arises as a result of human activity, and its negative consequences are not limited by national borders. Although court decisions do not have binding power and cannot compel states to take practical measures, this historic document plays a significant role in shaping the world's climate policy.

The process that led to this decision began in 2019 when students from the University of the South Pacific in Fiji urged the Vanuatu government to file a complaint with the UN. This initiative led to the adoption of a special resolution at the UN General Assembly in 2023.

In December 2024, hearings were held at the International Court, where representatives from over a hundred states and twelve international organizations expressed their opinions.

Additionally, at the beginning of July, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights also issued a decision compelling states to take all necessary measures to protect people's right to a stable climate. In conclusion, this historic decision by the UN International Court will strengthen a new, comprehensive, and human rights-based approach to climate issues in global politics and law.

Experts believe that this step opens new opportunities for the future of all humanity.
