The family and fans of the famous footballer Sulaymon al-Ubayd, who was killed in Gaza, are commemorating him with respect. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The 41-year-old forward was a leader of the Palestine national team and the “Al-Shati” club, and fans compared him to the Brazilian legend Pele. According to the Palestine Football Association and his relatives, he was killed by an Israeli tank shell while waiting to receive humanitarian aid in southern Gaza.
His wife, Doa al-Ubayd, is keeping the late player's number 10 jersey as a memento. Al-Ubayd's death has gained international attention.
Liverpool forward Muhammad Salah criticized UEFA for not mentioning the cause of the incident, asking, “How, where, and why did he die?” The Israeli army stated that no records were found in their initial investigation of the incident.
The Palestine Football Association emphasizes that hundreds of athletes and coaches have been killed in the war, and many sports facilities have been destroyed. Nevertheless, Al-Ubayd did not abandon football even in wartime and continued to train regularly.
Local fans say they remember him not only for his skill but also for his dedication to the sport. They say, “This player played on the field like the wind, and watching him was always a pleasure.”
