The Levotobi volcano has become active again: thousands of people have been evacuated

The Levotobi volcano, located in the eastern part of Flores Island in Indonesia, has become active again, with an 8-kilometer ash column rising into the air, local media reports.

According to the Indonesian Geological Agency, the volcano erupted on March 21 during one night and two daytime events. As a result, nearby villages were covered in ash. This situation has particularly negatively affected the agricultural community.

At the international airport on Bali Island, flights to Australia and Kuala Lumpur operated by Jetstar and Air Asia have been canceled.

The government raised the volcano's alert level to the highest stage and prohibited access to the area within a 7-8 kilometer radius. The disaster management agency declared a 14-day state of emergency. Currently, 4,700 citizens have been relocated to safe zones.

It is worth noting that the Levotobi volcano also erupted last November, resulting in the deaths of 9 people and injuries to dozens. Indonesia has about 130 active volcanoes and is located in the Pacific "Ring of Fire."
