Recently, the consumption of illegal alcoholic beverages in Kuwait has caused a major concern among the public. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at least 23 people died after consuming secretly produced alcoholic drinks. The ministry announced this on its official social media page.
The official statement emphasized that the production and distribution of alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited in the country. Nevertheless, some individuals are secretly engaged in producing such products.
Failure to comply with control and safety regulations poses a serious risk of poisoning to consumers. As a result of special operations conducted by the police, 67 suspects were detained.
Additionally, six clandestine production sites and four factories that had not yet started operations were identified and shut down. They were operating secretly in residential and industrial areas.
According to the Ministry of Health, cases of methanol poisoning have reached 160. Most of the victims are labor migrants mainly from Asian countries, among whom 23 have died.
Earlier, the number of fatalities was reported as 13, but later the number of victims increased. The Ministry of Internal Affairs determined that the leader of the criminal group is a Bangladeshi citizen who has been arrested.
It was also reported that another suspect is Nepali. According to Kuwaiti legislation, the production, sale, and home storage of liquor, wine, and other alcoholic products are strictly prohibited in the country.
Exceptions may only apply to diplomatic missions or closed clubs belonging to foreigners. This tragedy once again demonstrated the dangerous consequences of illegal production and reminded that strict adherence to laws and regulations is necessary to protect human lives.
