A landslide occurred in the Marra Mountains region of Darfur, Sudan, due to heavy rains. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the United Nations, at least 370 people have died, but the number of casualties could be even higher. Local residents reported that the death toll has reached a thousand.
The landslide destroyed a large part of the village of Tarseen. Rescuers have so far found only nine bodies.
Hundreds of families lived in the village, and many people are still missing. The United Nations is delivering rescuers, food, drinking water, and other necessary aid.
However, access to the mountainous area is very difficult, and rain and poor roads are slowing down rescue efforts. Therefore, aid delivery by air is planned.
The governor of Darfur called this event a major tragedy and urged the international community to provide immediate assistance. Accelerating aid efforts on site and supporting the victims is of great importance.
