A large gas processing plant in Russia's Orenburg region has ceased operations due to a Ukrainian drone attack. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
As a result, gas reception from Kazakhstan has been temporarily halted. This was announced by the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
According to the regional governor Yevgeniy Sontsev, the drone strike caused a fire in part of the plant. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the production process was completely stopped.
This plant also receives gas from Kazakhstan's Karachaganak field. Therefore, the attack also affected Kazakhstan's energy system.
Gas transmission has not yet been restored. Ukrainian officials stated that their attack was carried out with the aim of damaging Russia's energy infrastructure and weakening its military budget.
They describe this as an action carried out within their defense strategy. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that 45 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight.
Of these, 12 were destroyed in the Samara region, 11 in Saratov, and one in the Orenburg region. Officials emphasized that no one was injured as a result of the incident.
This event is impacting the region's gas supply and energy security. Nevertheless, the ministries are working to stabilize the situation and restore gas transmission.
