
On November 7, 2025, Egyptian archaeologist and professor Khaled Ahmad al-Anani Ali Ezz was officially announced by the organization as the 12th Director-General of UNESCO. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He will begin his term on November 15 and will lead the organization for four years. Khaled al-Anani will be the first representative from an Arab country to head UNESCO, as well as the second African to hold this position.
He previously served as Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities. Additionally, he holds a PhD in Egyptology and has 30 years of teaching experience.
Al-Anani speaks three languages and is known as a special envoy for cultural tourism at the World Tourism Organization. UNESCO is a specialized agency of the UN in the fields of science, education, and culture, with its main goal being to strengthen peace through international cooperation.
The organization unites 194 member states and manages over 2,000 World Heritage sites worldwide.
