The upcoming G20 summit in South Africa is showing an unusual situation compared to previous ones. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to information provided by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 13, this year’s summit will be attended not by the country’s leader Xi Jinping, but by Premier of the State Council Li Xian on behalf of China. According to the official statement, Li Xian will lead the Chinese delegation at the G20 summit taking place in Johannesburg from November 21 to 23, upon the invitation of the South African government.
This is Li Xian’s second participation in this summit. He previously represented China at the meeting held in New Delhi.
A notable aspect of this year’s summit is that, for the first time since 2008, the leaders of the three major G20 countries are not attending. U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have decided not to participate in the summit.
Trump explained his decision by criticizing the policies of the South African government, while Russia announced it will participate at the delegation level. The Johannesburg summit reflects changes in leadership on the global political stage and a new dynamic among countries.
Li Xian’s participation reflects China’s efforts to continue its active role in global dialogue. It reaffirms China’s intention to maintain a stable presence in economic and geopolitical relations.
