Scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences have resumed discussions on the issue of diverting water from the Ob River, one of Siberia's major rivers, to the territories of Central Asia. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This idea was previously proposed during the Soviet Union era as the "Turn" project but was not implemented at that time. Currently, specialists are reconsidering this plan using modern technologies.
According to the project, it is planned to transfer Siberian waters through special closed plastic pipes over a distance of 2100 kilometers. This water could be supplied to the territories of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Experts emphasize that the project is being studied from various practical perspectives. Engineering capabilities, technical specifications, and environmental impacts are being thoroughly analyzed.
If the project is realized, it could help alleviate water shortages in the Aral Sea region. Although no final decision has been made on this matter yet, the idea of diverting Siberian waters to Central Asia remains in the public eye.
