Australia has become the first country in the world to ban children under 16 from using social networks. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the new law, major platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook must block underage users. If this requirement is not met, companies may face fines of up to 49.5 million Australian dollars.
The government's decision aims to protect the mental health of young people. Research shows that when teenagers spend a long time on social networks, they are more likely to face problems such as loneliness, mental pressure, and cyberbullying.
For this reason, the state has set a goal to create a safer environment for youth. Platforms plan to use methods such as facial scanning, behavior analysis, or document verification to determine users' ages.
Even Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) platform has announced its compliance with the law. The Australian government emphasized that it will continuously monitor this process.
Some young people have expressed that this restriction may make it harder to communicate with friends. At the same time, experts note that this initiative could serve as an example for other countries.
Australia's experience is expected to spark widespread international discussions in the future.
