Shooting at the Tajik-Afghan border: two soldiers killed
The situation at the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border has escalated again. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

On the night of December 24, a clash occurred with an armed group attempting to cross the border from the neighboring country secretly. As a result of this incident, two Tajik border guards were killed.

The State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan issued an official statement regarding the incident. The event took place in the "Sarchashma" border detachment area in the Shamsiddin Shohin district.

Three armed militants tried to illegally cross the border at night. The border guards identified them and demanded their surrender, to which the militants responded by opening fire.

As a result of the brief shootout, all three militants were eliminated. Unfortunately, during the clash, servicemen Zirekhbon Navro‘zbekov and Ismatullo Qurbonov were killed.

Several weapons were seized at the scene. Among them were M-16 rifles, Kalashnikov assault rifles, silenced pistols, hand grenades, night vision devices, and explosives.

These weapons indicate that the militants planned to carry out large-scale sabotage activities within Tajikistan’s territory. The Tajik side accused the "Taliban" government in Afghanistan of irresponsibility.

According to the official statement, this is the third armed attack within the last month. Previous attacks reportedly caused harm to Chinese workers as well.

The Tajik government accused the "Taliban" of failing to fulfill international commitments and demanded a formal apology from the Afghan leadership along with necessary measures. Currently, security measures at the border have been strengthened and the situation is assessed as stable.

Law enforcement agencies continue their investigation into the incident. The Tajik government emphasized its readiness to take all necessary measures to protect its borders.

The question of how repeated attacks at the border will affect regional security remains open.
