Sweden is discussing switching to the euro again

In Sweden, the issue of abandoning the national currency – the krona – and switching to the euro is being discussed again. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This topic has also gained serious attention at the parliamentary level. A special discussion dedicated to the euro has been scheduled at the initiative of the Liberal Party.
According to Member of Parliament Cecilia Renn, as competition among major countries in the world intensifies, risks for small economies are increasing. Therefore, Sweden's transition to the euro could serve to strengthen political and economic ties with European countries, as well as increase its influence in making joint decisions on currency matters.
The deputy emphasized that Sweden has joined NATO and strengthened cooperation with European countries in the defense sector. However, being on a separate path regarding currency issues may leave the country outside the common system.
Switching to the euro also creates opportunities to increase trade volumes and attract investments. The stability of the national currency – the krona – is also at the center of discussions.
It is noted that over the past decade, the krona has significantly depreciated, and global economic changes and instability in the Baltic region are negatively affecting its exchange rate. The topic of Sweden switching to the euro is not being raised for the first time.
In the 2003 referendum, voters opposed adopting the single European currency. At that time, the "no" result prevailed.
Today, geopolitics, security, investment, and trade issues are closely interconnected. Therefore, attitudes toward the euro in Sweden may be reconsidered.
This is not a final decision yet, but the start of discussions could lay the foundation for major changes in the future.
