Croatian President Rejects Confirmation of Israel's New Ambassador Nominee

Croatian President Zoran Milanović has rejected the nomination of a candidate proposed by Israel for the position of its new ambassador to Zagreb, according to Zamin.uz.
According to official sources, the decision was made in response to the current policies of the Israeli government, particularly its ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip. A statement issued by the President Milanović’s office stated in a press release that despite the proposal from the Israeli side, Milanović did not give his consent to the diplomatic representative and will not do so in the future.
President Milanović had previously criticized Israel’s military actions in Gaza on several occasions. Until now, he had refrained from making sharp public statements on the issue, adhering to the norms of international diplomatic etiquette.
However, recent events and Israel’s actions appear to have exhausted the president’s patience. In his view, Israel announced the appointment of a new ambassador to Zagreb without obtaining Croatia’s official consent.
Milanović regards this as a serious violation of mutual respect and unwritten norms in international diplomatic relations. For its part, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it is conducting consultations with Croatian partners to resolve the situation regarding the vacant ambassadorial post in Zagreb.
At present, diplomatic relations between Croatia and Israel are significantly strained due to the tense situation in the Middle East. The ongoing military clashes in Gaza are negatively affecting official dialogue between the two countries.
It is worth noting that in February of this year, Zoran Milanović firmly stated that Croatian forces would not cooperate with the Israeli army, condemning the violation of international humanitarian law standards.
In conclusion, by rejecting the nominee for ambassador, President Milanović has clearly demonstrated his political stance.
This decision is seen not only as a breach of diplomatic protocol but also as a stance regarding the tragic events in Gaza. The signal sent by Zagreb implies that no diplomatic step taken without prior official agreement will be accepted.
